Kuna City has a rich history that spans centuries. The vast sagebrush desert, now known as Kuna, was originally home to the Bannock and Nez Perce Tribes. These Native American tribes utilized the land as hunters and gatherers, marking the first known inhabitants of the area.
In 1881, the Oregon Short Line Railroad Company began building its line across Idaho. Interestingly, it bypassed Boise City due to the uneven terrain but established a stop in Kuna. This railroad stop, coupled with coach transport to Boise, marked the beginning of Kuna’s development as a town. The town saw significant growth in the last 25 years, evolving from a small community of farmers to a sprawling community filled with subdivisions. The Kuna Historical Society was formed to collect and preserve the memories of the men and women who contributed to this growth.
One of Kuna’s historical landmarks includes its first brick, two-story school on Rattlesnake Hill, a testament to the town’s commitment to education. In 1918, Kuna welcomed a new wave of settlers who came to farm the land, further establishing the town’s agricultural roots. Today, Kuna stands as a testament to its rich history, embodying the spirit of growth and community.
