Even though coffee grounds are horrible for your plumbing, we still have customers call us out for an issue caused by coffee grounds down the drain. Somewhere in their life they’ve been told that it’s okay to do with a disposal, only in small amounts, or some were even told it is good for clearing drains or freshening the waste disposer.

We admit they appear to go down the drain quite easily, especially with a disposal. However, they can pile up in the pipes resulting in a sludge, that attracts waste and causes a backup in your drain. Even if you do have a waste disposal unit, you should never put coffee grounds down the drain. Coffee grounds do not dissolve or easily break down instead they act much like grease and fats due to the oils found in coffee. The only things to go down the disposal should be small amounts of food left on dishes and the water used to wash them.

So, to answer the question, No do not put coffee grounds down the drain. A much better alternative would be to add your used coffee grounds to your compost bin. If coffee grounds have your drains struggling to do their job and you want it fixed right the first time, call Master Rooter Plumbing. Since 1948 we’ve been helping Southern Idaho Families with plumbing and septic needs.

Other things to avoid putting down drains and toilets would be:

Hair

harsh cleaning chemicals (in excess)

Floss

Feminine hygiene products

Diapers and wipes

Paint, lacquer, etc.

Steve was able to get out to our house quickly and fix a leak. Very friendly, helpful, and willing to walk me through everything he was doing to fix our problem. He figured out the problem quickly and offered some helpful advice going forward. Great service and experience. Hopefully I won’t need a plumber again soon but if I do I know who I’ll be calling.

The gentleman running the pumper truck (Brad) did a great job on the first tank. I ask if he could pump another tank while he was in the area. He said no problem helped me dig the lid. Told me my baffle going into the drain field needed replaced I asked what it looked like and he sent me a picture. Opening the lid we couldn’t get off. Called Brad and he gave me some tricks to get off. They worked. I will recommend Brad to anyone.Your service tech (Dillon Hughes) power vetted out our lateral line going to our septic field. He was very informative and very efficient. Saved us from having to put in a new septic field. He was right on time and a lot of fun to be around. Very knowledgeable young man. Highly recommend him.Doug ThurmanGrand View Idaho

Timothy at Master Plumbing has been awesome! I call quite often to report maintenance requests with the property I manage, and he often answers the phone and takes my work orders. I appreciate that he always gives me a realistic time-frame for when a technician is available to come out and I can then pass this along to my tenant. Master Plumbing has been our go-to for their professional and quality service!

The service was excellent. Frank educated me on septic treatments and septic usage. Frank was professional and courteous to everybody involved. I contacted master plumbing when I saw them pumping my neighbor's septic tank. They were able to accommodate me immediately following that job. Both my neighbor and I were extremely impressed with professionalism and Frank's demeanor and knowledge. Would definitely use them again.
